BHRT Q & A

What is BHRT?

Bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) is a treatment that replaces your hormones as you lose them with age. The hormones that Dr. Patel uses for the treatment are identical to your natural hormones, as opposed to artificial hormones, which can cause unwanted side effects since they aren’t quite structurally the same.

It’s important to note that BHRT isn’t always a quick fix. In fact, you might not feel better for three to six months after your treatment. However, the difference you’ll eventually feel is worth the wait.

Because each case is different, Dr. Patel may request that you visit every few weeks so she can adjust your hormone dosages until you get the amount that you need.

What can BHRT help treat?

Your hormones have a huge impact on the way your body functions and the way you feel. They influence your metabolism, energy, mood, and sex life, among many other aspects of your health. You start to lose them when you hit menopause as a woman or andropause as a man, which usually occurs sometime after age 40.

Some symptoms associated with hormone loss that can see improvement from BHRT include:

  • Low energy
  • Low libido
  • Weight gain
  • Dry skin
  • Hair loss
  • Mood swings
  • Poor memory and concentration
  • Night sweats and hot flashes
  • Vaginal dryness

Dr. Patel asks you about the specific benefits you’d like to see from your hormone replacement therapy and compounds hormones for your treatment that meet your needs. Once your symptoms go away, you can stop your BHRT and only return for further treatment if they come back.

How is BHRT administered?

There are several ways to administer BHRT, and Dr. Patel specializes in two of them:

Topicals

Some bioidentical hormones come in the form of gels, creams, or patches that you wear on your skin. Your body absorbs them slowly in this way.

Injections

In some cases, hormone injections are the better option. Hormone injections go under your skin for faster absorption.

Dr. Patel selects the right method for you based on a number of factors. You won’t need to take any time to recover from your BHRT and you can go about your day as normal after the treatment application.

If you’re approaching or experiencing the effects menopause or andropause, don’t hesitate to call Perfect YOUth or book a consultation online for BHRT today.
